City of Port Phillip Council VIC

South Melbourne Depot Upgrades

Overview

The City of Port Phillip Council maintains and upgrades the public areas in the Port Melbourne, South Melbourne, Albert Park, Middle Park, St Kilda, Balaclava, Ripponlea and Elwood areas. With such a large area to maintain, large storage facilities are needed to park rubbish trucks, council vehicles, etc.

Challenge

The City of Port Phillip Council required large upgrades to the roof safety of their South Melbourne Depot and engaged Correct Safety to design and construct a compliant solution for the council facility. The client required access to the gutter edges and roof mounted equipment, and with access to the roof from the inside not being an option due to structural integrity issues, a custom free-standing ladder had to be designed to provide safe access to the roof. As the building is aging a lot, the brittle skylights in the roof also had to be accounted for to ensure no falls through the roof.

Solution

Our solution installed included:

  • A custom free-standing angled cage ladder with midway landing platform and landing kit
  • Skylight protection mesh to prevent falls through skylights
  • Static line system and anchor points for access to equipment and gutter edges
  • Mini ladders providing access between roof levels
  • Angled cage ladder with landing kit for safe access to the roof
